6 Tips To Elevate Your 4/20 Experience

6 Tips To Elevate Your 4/20 Experience

Table of Contents

Is there any day more jam-packed with good vibes, friendship, and blissful, freshly lit piney aroma than April 20th?

There's no one right way to celebrate 4/20. Some people like to light one up at a local show, others may have a few drops of tincture while trekking in nature, and some are satisfied with having a gummy and watching a movie. But if it's been a while since you've celebrated, or if you need some brushing up, we've compiled several pro tips to help you prepare for the holiday.

1. Get Your Stash Delivered

It's 2024, and…..cannabis prohibition is still a thing in some form or another. Like, really?

Despite some states legalizing cannabis, classified as "marijuana" for medical and recreational purposes, federally, it is still a Schedule I Controlled Substance.

Then you also have states that are still issuing fines or throwing people in jail for the unspeakable crime of minding their own business and enjoying a plant to unwind.

But as you probably know, not all cannabis is classified as "marijuana." Hemp and its derived cannabinoids are federally legal thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill and also in most states (like here in Texas).  Because it is federally legal, it can be shipped across state lines (unlike marijuana) and purchased with a credit card.

So what does that mean for you? It means your days of scrounging around for your 4/20 stash are over, my friend.

You can get THC-infused gummiesflowertincturesbaked goods, or whatever delivered discreetly to your home without looking over your shoulder as long as the Delta-9 THC concentration is no more than 0.3% by dry weight (the federal limit).

Now you've got no excuse to be empty-handed for the holiday. What a time to be alive.

2. Know Your Session's Etiquette - Don't Be a Buzzkill

Session etiquette comes into play if you're smoking Delta-8 Flower versus enjoying edibles.

The Unspoken “Puff Puff Pass” Rule

One of the universal rules among circles is "puff puff pass", which means you take two pulls off the vape, joint, pipe, or whatever you're enjoying, then pass it off to the next person in the circle.

In other words, don't hog it to yourself, aka "Bogarting," and don't hold onto it while going off on some tangent as the joint or blunt burns away in your hand. Just pass it, and then share your profound insights or funny anecdotes.

Although "puff, puff pass" has been widely adopted, not everyone uses this approach. Others might pass you a pipe, tell you to "have at it," and then repack it for the next person. And some go by "roller's rights," meaning although they bought the flower, they are handing the direction of the session to the person who rolled the joint or blunt.

Know How To Corner

And finally, if you're using a glass pipe or water pipe, know how to corner it. "Cornering" means lighting up a small section of the pipe's bowl so that you can get a fresh pull and offer others a chance to get a fresh draw vs. lighting everything from the top all at once.

Basically, whoever bought the flower determines the etiquette for the circle. Respect that, be mindful of others, and enjoy the good times.

3. Know Your Limits - They're Your Friends, Not Babysitters

Remember, there is little threat of physical danger from cannabis. But if you're enjoying some quality hemp-derived cannabinoids this 4/20, be mindful of your limits and the limits of others.

Cannabinoids affect everyone a bit differently. For example, one person may be "set" with just one 5mg Delta-9 gummy. However, another person might prefer a 25mg Delta-9 gummy to get the effects they're looking for.

There's no universal right or wrong amount, just the right amount for you.

It is possible that someone could feel "overwhelmed" from consuming too much at one point or another (read the instructions, people!). But carefully consider how much is right for you, especially when hanging out with friends or if you have a whole day of fun/adventure ahead of you. Nothing kills the vibe on 4/20 like having to nurse someone when you can all just be, well...enjoying the holiday.

As mentioned above, there is little physical danger in overindulging in cannabis. If you ever do feel overwhelmed, grab some water, find a comfy place to lie down, watch a movie, or listen to music and relax. Just remember that it will pass.

On the flip side, you should also consider the limits of your fellow cannabis enthusiasts. If someone tells you, they're "good" when you offer them something, respect that.

4. Stock Up On Munchies (But Don't Skip Beverages)

Next to stocking up on actual hemp-derived goods, the second most important thing in getting ready for 4/20 is making sure that you have a stash of snacks lined up for the holiday.

One thing that you shouldn't look over, though, is drinks. Is it because they're tasty and refreshing? Yes. But also, if you are smoking, a cool drink may help alleviate any irritation or help if your mouth is getting dry.

But if you're looking for something to munch as an "add-on" to your experience, we have baked goods perfect for splitting among your crew that you can find in our THC-infused baked goods collection.

However, if you aren't looking to consume more THC at the moment, plenty of foods can synergize with the cannabinoid, such as dark chocolate or even something to "tone it down" like black peppercorn. Remember that results vary, but you can read more about it in another blog post.

5. Rideshare, Walk, or Whatever- Just Don't Drive

Depending on where you live, there may be a lot of fun events going on for 4/20. Sweet!

But remember, driving while being under the effects of hemp-derived cannabinoids...isn't cool. After all, one of the known effects of THC, whether it's Delta-8, Delta-9, or a similar molecule such as HHC, is that it can slow down your reaction time.

So please, from all of us at Hometown Hero, stay safe and make sure that you have your rides lined up, whether you're calling a rideshare service or just a friend that doesn't partake but is still down to hang out that day.

After all, if you can afford craft-quality, fine cannabis goods, you can surely afford a bus fare or rideshare.

6. Be Kind To Mother Nature (Pick Up After Yourself)

Is there anywhere better to partake in cannabis than in the peaceful embrace of nature? Probably not.

And seeing disposables, product packaging, or whatever lying around on your favorite trail, beach, or nature spot is quite the bummer. So please, be respectful of your environment and leave no trace behind.

When packing for your "outdoor excursion," bring a plastic zip bag to store your filters or product wrappers. That way, when it's time to leave, you can dispose of it at the nearest trash receptacle on your way out.

After all, 4/20 is also about breaking down the stigmas surrounding cannabis. But leaving a bunch of trash around? Well, that makes us all look bad.

Only you can keep our favorite outdoor session spots clean.

In Conclusion...

That just about wraps up our 4/20 guide. Remember, it is crucial to understand session etiquette, respect others' limits, and know your own, as overindulging can kill the vibe and ruin the experience for everyone. Keep the pro tips mentioned in this guide top of mind, including stocking up on munchies, being kind to nature, and avoiding driving while potentially impaired. As long as you follow these tips, you're sure to have a memorable and enjoyable 4/20 celebration.
