Hometown Hero is more than just a brand; we’re a testament to the enduring spirit of community, compassion, and wellness. Our journey started in 2015 when two friends, Lukas Gilkey and Lewis Hamer, embarked on a mission to craft high-quality, plant based goods from the heart of Austin, Texas.
Lukas, a proud U.S. Coast Guard veteran, had witnessed firsthand the challenges and struggles faced by his friends who had served in different branches of the military. These experiences left an indelible mark on Lukas, inspiring him to take action.
From the very beginning, the core principle that has guided us is the belief that true hometown heroes are all around us and they deserve our unwavering support. Lukas and Lewis made a profound commitment to give back to those who have dedicated themselves to protecting and serving their country, while also making sure they have access to safe hemp-derived goods. This is why we donate a portion of our profit to nonprofit organizations that help veterans in need.

From freshly sourced ingredients to proprietary blends, we aim to excel in flavor and effect with each handcrafted product we make while giving back to the hometown heroes who inspire us.

We send samples from every batch we produce to a third party lab certified by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Our full-panel lab tests are readily accessible for your review, providing comprehensive insights into product content and any potential contaminants, because your peace of mind matters to us.
When it comes to flavor, consistency, and effect, it's not just about "meeting standards." We set them and exceed them. Our hemp is grown with organic and sustainable practices on a small farm just outside of Austin in the “Texas Wine Country.” Isolated from other farms, we can control for cross-contamination to ensure our hemp is federally legal on all levels.
From there, we handmake our products in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certified facility, recognized for cleanliness and quality assurance. Products are tested throughout this process, ensuring the quality and taste we are known for.
Giving back to our country's hometown heroes is a core component of who we are and will always remain central to our mission. Over the years, we've donated to many great organizations, including Texas Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Operation Finally Home, and others.
