Why Don't We Talk About Delta 8 THC's Medical Benefits?

You’ve heard about it. We’ve heard about it. There are dozens of articles about it all over the internet. There are some studies that have shown that there could be medical benefits from consuming Delta 8 THC, but why are we over at Hometown Hero not talking about it?

Want to find out more about Delta 8 THC? Check out our article What is Delta 8 THC?

Below, we are going to share some of our favorite sites for resources on the on-going research into the potential medical benefits of Delta 8 THC, as well as the reasons per FDA guidelines we are prohibited from publishing articles on these health topics ourselves.

Any health supplement on the market must meet stringent FDA requirements before they are allowed to make health claims.

Directly from the FDA’s website:

To be approved by the FDA as an authorized health claim, there must be significant scientific agreement (SSA) among qualified experts that the claim is supported by the totality of publicly available scientific evidence for a substance/disease relationship. The SSA standard is intended to be a strong standard that provides a high level of confidence in the validity of the substance/disease relationship.

An example of an authorized health claim is, "Adequate calcium and vitamin D as part of a healthful diet, along with physical activity, may reduce the risk of osteoporosis in later life."

While there are scientific studies on Delta 8 THC that report healthful effects, these do not meet the standards of the FDA’s “SSA” or “Significant Scientific Agreement.”

When the FDA evaluates a health claim, the agency considers the totality of the publicly available scientific evidence (including evidence from well-designed studies conducted in a manner that is consistent with generally recognized scientific procedures and principles). If there is significant scientific agreement (SSA) among qualified experts that the claim is supported by the evidence, the agency will authorize by regulation a health claim for the substance/disease relationship.

Because of the FDA’s high standards and the relatively recent development of Delta 8 THC products, the FDA is currently of the opinion that Delta 8 THC products and their purported health claims do not meet the standards of the SSA.

There is a decided difference among care providers about this use of a substance they associate with “addictive” undesirable effects. Thus we are ruled and controlled by the ban controls of the government. Delta-8 thus falls suspect as another category potentially hazardous target that could be controlled out of the market. It therefore could be taken away as a valuable asset potentially very valuable to millions of patients that are badly in need of a potentially life-saving need for pain management. The abrupt CDC rule regarding actual life-saving opiates in 2016 for restriction on any long term use of former Class III valuable pain control medications ended these medications’ long term use.. a huge mistake for significant millions who were in no way “addicted”. Many millions lost their quality of life by being forced to rely on OTC ineffective medications. Significantly large declines in quality of life sank more into depression and pain many who died. So much for government intrusion into too many lives. Delta-8 may yet be another causality of government overreach of control of people’s lives.

I just read an article about the benefits of CBD for certain conditions from the Harvard Medical School. It’s a column with a Doctor answering patient’s specific questions about their conditions. I’ll email you a copy. Could you send things like that to customers to let them know about how some in the medical profession feel about CBD?
My brother-in-law has TBI from a concussion and the doctor writes that CBD is neuro-protective. I’m going to call my sister-in-law and let her know and recommend that she has him try it and give her your contact info, since your products are so reliable.

I’ve just tried the Delta 8 250mg gummies. I started with 1/2. It was ok. Then I tried whole gummie. Great relaxing affect. But I had my little grandson & I was not mentally alert enough to take care of him. Not sure what I’m looking for in a gummie. I suppose it was the ad as a “happy pill” that got my attention. I’m 63 yrs old. I’m already chill! Great product though.
