Select Spectrum vs Delta 8 THC

Delta-8 has been making waves in the cannabis industry and across news outlets.

Well, there's a newer hemp-derived product in town.

It's called Select Spectrumand per gummy, it contains 10mg CBD, 10mg Delta-9 THC, and other cannabinoids, all derived from hemp.

So how does Select Spectrum compare to Delta-8?

That's what we're going to cover in this blog post. Here, we'll go over:

Let's get to it.

What is Hemp?

Whether you're new to hemp products or you're an avid enthusiast, to explain Select Spectrum vs. Delta-8, we need to start with the source.

So what is hemp?

Hemp is a legal designation for cannabis with a 0.3% or lower concentration of Delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis.

Anything above that, even 0.31%, is considered marijuana. However, most marijuana strains will have a percentage of Delta-9 that is a lot higher (no pun intended) than this.

And yes, hemp and marijuana are the same species. The only distinction is a legal one.

Hemp was legalized on a federal level with the 2018 Farm Bill. After this legislation was passed, many other states followed suit.

As of this post's publication, marijuana is still a Schedule I drug that is illegal on a federal level and in most states.

Hemp's federal legal status means that you can also purchase it online, and you can have hemp-derived products shipped over state lines.

So that's all there is to it.

Hemp is just a type of cannabis with a lower concentration of Delta-9 THC. Delta-9 THC is part of hemp's legal definition.

Cannabinoids Found in Hemp

cannabinoids in hemp

Any cannabinoid in marijuana can be found in hemp. Remember, it's not that some cannabinoids are legal on a federal level or in many states. It's only the concentration of Delta-9 THC that distinguishes something as marijuana along with its source.

Hemp contains:

  • CBD
  • Delta-9 THC
  • Delta-8 THC
  • Other cannabinoids

Yes. "Other cannabinoids" sounds vague. That's because there are over 113 cannabinoids that are known. Many of them don't have effects worth noting.

So we only mentioned the "singles" and not the "deep cuts."

Now that we covered what can be found in hemp, let's dive a bit deeper into Delta-8.

What is Delta-8 THC?

When people talk about "THC," they are actually referring to a particular type of THC—Delta-9.

Delta-8 is an isomer of Delta-9. This means that they consist of the same parts but in a different arrangement.

Delta-8 has a chemical bond on its eighth carbon chain, and Delta-9 has a bond on its ninth.

In hemp, Delta-8 appears in small amounts. It's actually less prominent than Delta-9.

When it comes to Delta-8, there are two main types:

  • Naturally derived
  • Synthesized

Naturally derived Delta-8 means that the product you're getting contains a cannabinoid made by nature.

At Hometown Hero, we only use naturally-derived Delta-8. We get it through the same type of CO2 extraction process used to make organic decaf coffee.

Basically, high-temperature and high-pressure CO2 "pushes" the extracts out of plant material. Because Delta-8 appears in small amounts in hemp, there is a lot of biomass needed to make Delta-8 products.

Synthesized Delta-8 means that through a chemical process, CBD is covered to Delta-8. Some of the chemicals used in this process may include hydrochloric acid, heptane, argon, and others. Many manufacturers choose this method because it is cheaper.

In short, Delta-8 is a form of THC that became more popular due to the legalization of hemp.

Delta-8 sourced from hemp is legal on a federal level and in many states, no matter the concentration.

What is Select Spectrum?

Select Spectrum Mango Gummies

"Select Spectrum" refers to a class of products developed by Hometown Hero. That's right, we invented an entirely new type of hemp product in-house. And it took us two years to develop it.

A Select Spectrum product contains a blend of cannabinoids that includes:

  • CBD
  • Delta-9 THC
  • Other cannabinoids

And yes, it's the same type of "other cannabinoids" mentioned earlier.

For a more concrete example, Hometown Hero's Select Spectrum Mango Gummies contain 10mg of CBD, 10mg of Delta-9 THC, and other cannabinoids per gummy.

They fall under the legal definition of hemp because:

  • All the cannabinoids are derived from hemp
  • The Delta-9 THC concentration does not exceed 0.3% on a dry weight basis

To be more accurate, within this blend of cannabinoids, the Delta-9 concentration in Select Spectrum Mango Gummies is approximately 0.167%.

So how does Select Spectrum compare to Delta-8?

We'll cover that next.

Select Spectrum vs. Delta-8 Effects

To start off, we need to talk about the effects of cannabinoids in general.

Cannabinoids affect everyone differently. We can get a general idea based on collected experiences, but there's no sure-fire way to tell how they will affect you.

When discussing the effects of Select Spectrum vs. Delta-8, you're basically considering the effects of a blend of cannabinoids vs. just one cannabinoid.

And just to clear things up, Select Spectrum does not contain Delta-8 THC.

Now, let's get into the details of the effects.

Most enthusiasts of Delta-8 describe the cannabinoid as:

  • Calming
  • Creating a sense of wellbeing
  • Promoting a mild euphoria

Delta-8 has properties similar to Delta-9 but with different effects and less potency.

Now, let's talk about the effects of Select Spectrum.

Because of its blends, Select Spectrum can bring on an entourage effect. An entourage effect is when multiple cannabinoids "work" synergistically to bring out the best in each other.

Select Spectrum has many cannabinoids, but the two most prominent are CBD and Delta-9.

Select Spectrum can have similar effects to Delta-8, but some have reported a greater emphasis on euphoria.

But again, please keep in mind that these are all subjective experiences.

Plus, it's essential to know that if you consume Delta-8 or Select Spectrum, do not drive or engage in similar activities.

Why make Select Spectrum when there's already Delta-8?

Everyone has their preferences when it comes to looking for hemp-derived cannabinoids.

We made Select Spectrum to give people more options.

Some people may not like Delta-8 but prefer the entourage effect of Select Spectrum. Others may like Delta-8 over Select Spectrum. Then, there might be people who just want CBD.

So our recommendation, whether you're only new to Select Spectrum or you’re new to both, is to start off small.

Delta-8 and Select Spectrum Legality

Legal status of hemp with gavel

Delta-8 and Select Spectrum are legal because of the same law—the 2018 Farm Bill.

In short, the 2018 Farm Bill separated hemp from marijuana and legalized it on a federal level.

Cannabis with a 0.3% or less concentration of Delta-9 THC falls under the category of hemp. And all cannabinoids extracted from hemp are legal.

The Delta-8 THC used in Hometown Hero's products is extracted from hemp. Because the cap is on Delta-9 THC, there is no concentration limit for how much Delta-8 can be present in a product or if it's just pure Delta-8.

If you had Delta-8, in any amount, and it was extracted from marijuana, then it would be federally illegal and illegal in many states.

In hemp products, if the Delta-9 is extracted from hemp and it occurs in a concentration at 0.3% or less, then it is legal.

As mentioned earlier, Select Spectrum's Delta-9 concentration is just a little over half of the maximum legal concentration.

What should also be noted is that Delta-9 extracted from hemp, just by itself, is illegal. That's because the concentration would be 100%, and it would be well over enough to be considered marijuana.

So it's not Delta-9 that's illegal on a federal level. It's how much it is concentrated and where it comes from that can make it illegal.

Conclusion

So how does Select Spectrum compare to Delta-8?

  • They're both derived from hemp
  • Select Spectrum products feature a blend of cannabinoids
  • Delta-8 products feature just one cannabinoid
  • Both products produce highly noticeable effects
  • Select Spectrum has an entourage effect
  • D8's effects are solely that of a variant of THC
  • Both can be ordered online and shipped across the U.S.

And that pretty much sums up Delta-8 vs. Select Spectrum.
