Rod Kight is an attorney who specializes in all things cannabis. He has a wide range of experience, from working with the industry internationally to being part of the legal team that sued the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). So join Hometown Hero CEO and Co-Founder Lukas Gilkey as he sits down with Rod to discuss a wide range of cannabis issues and industry updates in the video below:

Hemp and Marijuana

Both hemp and marijuana are the same species—cannabis. The only thing that separates the two are definitions set forth by lawmakers. Hemp is cannabis with a 0.3% or lower concentration of Detla-9 THC by dry weight, and marijuana has a higher concentration than this.

Although they're the same species, the legal divisions have caused massive discrepancies in their regulation, significantly impacting how these industries function.

Taxation, Regulation, and a Limited Market

One of the leading business and political issues when a state legalizes marijuana for recreational purposes, is over-regulation and taxation. In many instances, it can drive up the cost of entering the marijuana industry for a much smaller enterprise, thus allowing these big marijuana to step in and dominate that state.
