We had many exciting developments in February, but our highlight was having the honor of sponsoring a women’s retreat hosted by Sacred Warrior Community.
In the beginning of 2022, we were given the opportunity to donate $15,000 to sponsor a retreat done by Sacred Warrior Community for our veterans and their partners.
But without supporters like you, we wouldn’t be able to work with these incredible organizations.
Keep reading to learn more about how the Scared Warrior Community creates an environment for our veterans and their partners to embark on the transformative journey of healing and connection.
About Sacred Warrior Community
Not all wounds are visible. And many of our veterans are left with the silent struggle of PTSD and other mental health conditions.
In a 2017 study of 5,826 United States veterans, 12.9% were diagnosed with PTSD. And many face unique barriers to getting help which can include long waiting lists and even social stigmas towards mental health treatment.
But with programs like Sacred Warrior Community, there is hope for our veterans and their partners.
Sacred Warrior Community is organization dedicated to creating a path of long-lasting, sustainable healing.
Through coaching and therapeutic activities, they assist their participants in making lifestyle changes to turn a group of strangers in to close-knit community of support among veterans and their significant others.
There have been five retreats done by the Sacred Warrior Community, with each location of the event being different from the next.
On February 18-21, the fifth retreat took place at Buchanan Dam, TX, where 12 women, three veterans, and nine partners/spouses attended.
After the retreat, we reached out to a few participants to hear how their experience went. Nathan Reeve served the U.S. Navy for 16 years and brought his partner, Paige Sebesta. They described their experiences as “Years of counseling in four days.”
How Does the Sacred Warrior Retreat Work?
Before the retreat starts, the participants are given a coach that they work with for weeks prior to the event to help them focus on lifestyle changes, such as increasing their physical activity, eating cleaner, and other adjustments to promote general wellness.
Depending on the individual, some of these lifestyle changes can stem from their level of physical activity and eating cleaner to promote a life of wellness.
The Sacred Warrior Retreat is four days, and was created with a community-based approach. Upon entry, each attendee is meeting someone new, with the women and men being placed in separate groups.
During the retreat, there will be exercises and events such as:
- One on one coaching
- Group therapy
- Meditative exercises to help push past ego and create a sense of being “free.”
- Fire ceremonies
- Guided breathing/meditation
Throughout the four days, these strangers become a vital part of helping each other by listening to their stories and sharing their individual experiences, which creates a bond and support system that lasts far after the retreat.
When the retreat is over, the coaching still occurs, so the participants can navigate their life with their newfound toolkit for healing.
Supporting Our Heroes in 2022
For over seven years, we’ve been on the mission of supporting our veterans.
Each year, we raise the bar higher, and with you, our supporters, we have the honor of working alongside amazing groups like Sacred Warrior Community to bring healing and support to those in need.
Back in 2021, we donated a total of $100,000 to veteran nonprofits.
Although 2022 has just started, we have bigger ambitions this year.
We want to thank all of the organizations we work with for their time and commitment because none of these deeds are possible without them.
And lastly, to all of our U.S. veterans, we are forever grateful for the sacrifices you made to serve this country. There are no words to describe our gratitude that we have for each and every veteran.
Because of you, we never lose sight of what we are here to do—give back to those who have served.
