This September, there were a lot of exciting developments at Hometown Hero. But the best, by far, was when we got to meet up with Operation Finally Home founder Dan Wallrath and U.S. Army veteran Jorge De Leon in New Braunfels, TX, to present a $25,000 donation to the nonprofit.

To learn more about how this amazing charity helps U.S. veterans, check out the video and article below:

About Operation Finally Home

Operation Finally Home is a nonprofit organization that builds custom homes and home modifications for U.S. veterans, their families, and the families of fallen servicemembers. Each and every home they build comes at no cost to the families and is entirely mortgage-free.

It all began in 2005 when homebuilder Dan Wallrath was asked to remodel a home for a wounded Marine. For 30 years, Dan had been building custom homes in the Lone Star State and served on numerous boards. Dan provided a home to the Marine and his family at no cost by teaming up with his community.

Since then, Operation Finally Home has completed over 250 home projects across 33 states. In other words, the world would be a better place with more people like Dan.

Jorge De Leon: A Hometown Hero

One of the recipients of the homes built by the nonprofit was U.S. Army veteran Jorge De Leon and his family. Having served for eight years as a police officer, he joined the U.S. Army in 2001.

As a paratrooper, Jorge completed 72 jumps and was deployed across the globe, from Korea to Afghanistan. In 2004, Jorge was attached to the Special Forces in Afghanistan, looking for Osama bin Laden.

During this tour, Jorge’s Humvee struck a mine. He lost his right leg, was severely injured in his left, and sustained hearing loss along with a brain injury.

However, Jorge’s determination didn’t end there. Having worked as a motivational speaker, he sought to help other wounded veterans get through their own challenges of emotional distress and financial difficulties.

Currently, Jorge resides in Texas, runs marathons and skydives. It was an honor to meet him, and his energy was flat-out contagious. It’s hard to think of anyone more deserving than a veteran with his drive and his passion.

Our Mission, Our Gratitude

Operation Finally Home Flag and Book

Since our founding in 2015, we’ve been on one mission—supporting veterans.

“Hometown Hero” isn’t just our name, but it’s a reminder. That’s because, to us, every U.S. veteran is a hometown hero. We will never take the sacrifices that our heroes have made for our country for granted, and we will continue to support veterans.

Dan, Jorge, and Operation Finally Home are just a few of the truly amazing people and organizations that we’ve had the honor to work with throughout our journey. We are forever grateful to veterans like Jorge and people like Dan, who are out there making a difference in the lives of our veterans.

And finally, we wanted to thank you. Yes, you.

It’s because of your support that we’re able to go out there, team up with these incredible organizations, and help make a difference in the lives of U.S. veterans. Because of your continued support, we will always push to increase our donations and work with more charitable organizations.
From all of us at Hometown Hero, we want to thank you, and we look forward to doing more amazing things together!
