CBD vs Hemp Oil: What’s the Difference?

Published February 8, 2021

Though similar, CBD oil and hemp oil actually have a few differences when it comes to how they affect your body and health. Both are said to have a variety of health benefits. To help you decide which one’s right for you, we’ve tackled the debate of CBD vs. hemp oil and broken down the differences between the two.

What’s CBD Oil?

CBD oilCBD oil is made from the leaves, flowers and stalks of the hemp plant. The process involves extracting CBD from the plant, then diluting it with a carrier oil like coconut or hemp seed oil. These parts of the hemp plant contain a higher concentration of CBD. People use CBD oil for both medicinal and recreational purposes. CBD is responsible for binding to the cannabinoid receptors to block some of the intoxicating effects of THC. This mixture creates a less psychoactive reaction to cannabis and makes for a more pleasurable experience for its consumers.

What’s Hemp Oil?

hemp oil and seedsHemp oil is made from hemp seeds, which means there is little to no CBD content in it. To extract the oil, the hemp seeds are pressed and bottled. This oil is rich in omega fatty acids, vitamin E and protein. People tend to look to hemp oil for its nutritional value because of its healthy fats and mineral content.

CBD vs Hemp Oil

When it comes to CBD vs hemp oil, the main difference is that they come from different parts of the hemp plant. CBD oil comes from the flowers, leaves, stems and stalks of matured hemp plants, rather than the seeds. Hemp oil is just a nutrient-rich oil and does not offer the same effects as CBD oil.

What’s the Difference Between Hemp and CBD?

So before we get into the difference between hemp and CBD, let’s start with hemp.

Hemp and marijuana are both considered cannabis, a species of plant.

The main distinction between hemp and marijuana is the law.

As stated in the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp is cannabis with 0.3% or less Delta-9 concentration on a dry weight basis. Anything above that limit is considered marijuana.

Now, let’s turn our attention to CBD.

Hemp has over 113 different cannabinoids, and CBD is one of them.

When CBD is extracted from hemp, it’s federally legal and legal across the country.

Simply put, the main difference between hemp and CBD is that hemp is the plant itself, while CBD is merely a compound within the plant.

A common mix-up occurs when people assume hemp oil is the same as CBD oil.

Hemp oil is made from cold-pressed hemp seeds that contain no CBD. And CBD oil is extracted directly from leaves, flowers, and other parts of the plant.

However, it isn’t uncommon for CBD tinctures or CBD oil to use hemp oil as a carrier oil. A carrier oil is a plant-based oil that helps the body absorb and process the cannabinoids.

CBD Oil Effects and Benefits

CBD oil can offer many effects, with each type of CBD giving a different experience.

The three types of CBD oil are:

  • CBD isolate
  • Full-spectrum
  • Broad-spectrum

CBD isolate is a product that contains only CBD without any other cannabinoids.

Full-spectrum CBD features a full range of cannabinoids and terpenes, including up to 0.3% of hemp-derived THC.

And broad-spectrum has all the same cannabinoids as full-spectrum, minus the THC.

As you can see, there are many products with each one offering a specific experience.

All in all, many have reported that CBD oil has been helpful in taking the edge off and creating a calming effect. But remember, effects can vary.

Unfortunately, we are not at liberty to discuss CBD oil benefits. However, a benefit we can discuss is the option to buy your hemp products online. Since hemp is federally legal, it can be shipped across state lines and delivered right to your doorstep.

Hemp Oil Effects and Benefits

Hemp oil is far closer to olive oil and avocado oil than any CBD product.

With that in mind, you likely haven’t had any effects with olive oil, right?

Jokes aside, as stated above, hemp oil can be used as a carrier oil in CBD tinctures, but that oil wouldn’t cause the effects that CBD does.

Beside that, hemp oil has many benefits in the culinary department.

Hemp oil pairs beautifully in preparing sauces, marinades, and along with many other dishes.

CBD Oil Side Effects

With all hemp products, it’s important to start small. Since effects vary from person to person, it is nearly impossible to determine the results of your experecine. If you have any questions on whether CBD is right for you, reach out to your physician for their expertise.

Hemp Oil Side Effects

When you use olive oil or any other cooking oil, we bet you didn’t experience any side effects. Since hemp oil doesn’t contain cannabinoids, effects aren’t usually in the conversation.
